I use this on the beach all the time, in an area known for theft. Never any issues. I can hang it from a tree and go for a swim and it gives me better peace of mind.I added some photos so that you can see several salient points: replace the lock; it looks like I could break it with my bare hands. For sure though, any Masterlock can be removed from any thing if you grasp it with a pipe wrench and turn clockwise (either direction). The hasp breaks with incredible leverage--sometimes the steel of the locker in my scenario will break off before the top-quality lock; but it's coming off, and right quick-like, at that. This lock...seats about a millimeter into the brass-colored body. Apparently, most customers can't open them once they set the combination (I have not had that problem, not at all!), because before and after the delivery, and again upon receipt of this request for a review, I have received tips on getting my pesky lock open, basically, if it's 1-2-3, try 0-2-3, and 1-1-3, and 1-2-2, and one off each number. That's about a thousand combinations to check (I forgot that formula involving permutations and factorials), so no thank you.Second, it is very difficult to find the two grommets that are in the leash onto which you will lock your lock, but patience and strength will reveal these two holes in about 5 minutes of tugging pushing pulling. You won't believe it when you start trying, but it CAN be done--I took a picture to prove it.In addition, putting the Loctote back into its little tent holder sack is harder than it is to put a tent or a bag chair into its storage sack. I proved it's possible in a photo, as well :-)I can't answer about efficacy in resisting water--I'm guessing if you were carrying this in the rain, it would be fine, and if you held it underneath the surface of a bucket of water, it would instantly fill with water.BUT, if you go to the trouble of putting the hasp of the lock through both of those grommets in the leash--the resulting hole left in the sack is small enough to keep your iPhone safely inside the Loctote. There's no way a phone + 2 thieving fingers would fit through there--or even the phone itself if you push it from outside the sack. Locking leaves a small opening. If you leave this locked overnight in public, it will disappear, but if you lock it to the railing while you go to the restroom at an outdoor restaurant, it will be there when you get back. Unless the thief is bold enough to use tools like heavy duty scissors/and or knives to steal it, in public. Certain places, Chicago, for example--a thief is assigned to you when you move there, and the first time you leave your bicycle locked, when you come back the seat will be gone, and the one wheel that you figured you wouldn't bother passing the cable lock through will also be missing. First time/every time. I imagine most cities are similarly populated with drug addicts, or people afflicted with compulsive thief disorder. That saddens me, but be prepared, the Boy Scouts taught me.Good luck! Loctote has given you what you paid for, here. I hope that impenetrable chain-mail, cut-proof bags will become available before my granddaughter is an adult. That's what we all want. A bag that you put your wallet, or even your bicycle into. You can carry it in your pocket, so it's made of some supernatural spiderman material that is impervious to a blow torch, bolt cutter, or a set of pipe wrenches moving in opposite directions on the hasp and body of the lock. Technology is coming. The size was perfect for cell phone wallet and my speaker with plenty of room for extras. Total peace of mind on my Mexico trip :)I was looking for something that I could take to the gym to put my cell phone in while working out (my gym just has open lockers), that was also not bulky so I could just throw it in my gym bag. I spent a couple of hours reading the reviews on all the different secure containers on the market (Paksafe, Flexsafe, Safego, etc), and this one seemed the perfect combination of portability and security. It has turned out to be perfect. It is a great size so I can easily roll it up into a small package that fits in a (large) pocket. then when I am at the gym I simply unroll it. It easily fits my gym card, car keys and phone in the bag and then I lock it around one of the weight racks in a corner. (I chose the khaki one which is a pleasant light tan that does not draw attention to itself.) I also attached a small lanyard (the purple thing in the photo) to the lock and to a loop that inside the top of bag so that it can be kept safely inside the bag when not needed, but is easily retrievable.I have not tried slashing it or anything (!!) , but it it appears well made and will deter any walk-by thief. I am also planning on using it at the beach this summer as I am always nervous when leaving my car keys in a regular bag while I am swimming - and I think it will be perfect for that also.I’d like to evaluate the major claims that LockTote makes.1. Small, light, portable. Check. If you don’t need this, there may be better solutions.2. Locks tight enough to secure phones, etc. Check. Reviewers who say they either can’t lock it tight or can get things out when it’s locked are bewildered.3. Big enough for essentials. Check, so long as essentials do not include tablets, iPads, etc.4. Secure against bad guys with knives or scissors. Nope. But get real. This is like a bike lock — it keeps honest people honest. It does not protect you against a determined thief. If you need to stash your stuff against committed crooks, get a better beach or pool. If you want protection against knives, forget goal #1. It ain’t gonna be light or portable. For my wife and me, it solves the beach, pool, public boat problem, where you need to secure wallets, phones, keys, and cash while you swim. For that, it’s excellent. Not 100% foolproof — but a lightweight, easy, cost-effective solution. It was pretty smallI bought this originally with the intent of having something to secure my DSLR camera and valuables that can't get wet in a rental jeep on the Road to Hana in Maui. If we decided to explore, those soft-top jeeps are notorious for being easy to break into...it worked like a charm, and was even able to use it for our passports and other important items in our rentals when out exploring at other times....I never 100% trust that someone couldn't come in and steal things. The only problem I had, and the reason for the 4 star rating, is the lock...so cheap, almost impossible to get open and closed regularly. I ended up using my luggage lock instead. We were traveling through Spain for a month, staying at apartments. My husband was concerned about theft so we decided to purchase the Loctote bag. It was surprisingly lightweight (the lock is the heaviest part) and no one was easily cutting through that lock! It was large enough to store an ipad, a kindle, a cell phone and documents. Bulkier items would have been problematic. My husband always secured the bag to something that was immovable--often times a plumbing fixture. While no one ever entered our apartments while we were out, he felt better having these items secured. It will travel with us next to Hawaii and then to Italy.Bought this to bring on vacation to our resort and keep valuables locked up by the pool and on the beach. The item arrived quickly, and instructions were very easy to follow. The lock worked perfectly, absolutely no complaints. There's a small zippered pocket on the inside which was the perfect place to keep our phones and towel cards organized and away from bigger items. The material of the bag is water-resistant, which was useful when retrieving items after coming out of the water and kept them dry from the occasional splash. The 3L bag held my husband's DSLR camera with a small lens, my iphone, our credit cards, room keys, and towel cards. It was a tight fit, but it worked. The metal ring makes it easy to lock the bag to a beach lounger or skinny tree branch for safe keeping. An absolute must-have for anyone worried about having stuff stolen while on resort or vacation. Je peux mettre ma main à l'intérieurGreat sizeWill hold your sell phone and other valuables with it being too big and bulkyDo wish the lock was a key lock instead of a combination lockLess chance for mistakes and not being able to open itI'm a traveler, and this is perfect for keeping your small items safe while at the beach or where-ever. Ample room for many items. Has an RF blocking pocket too! You pay for what you get, and this is very good quality.
